Double glazing for single-glazed windows (10) by means of a transparent foil (13) adhesively bonded to the window frame (12). To obtain a permanent prestress, the foil is fastened by means of two-layer magnetic tapes (14) which have adhesive layers (21, 22) on their respective outer faces. The magnetic tapes have inner magnetic-tape layers (16) and outer magnetic-tape layers (15) which are respectively subdivided into longitudinally extending south-pole and north-pole strips (17, 18, 19, 20) and which are assigned to one another with opposite poles. The zero lines (24, 25) between the south-pole and the north-pole strips of a magnetic-tape layer (15, 16) are offset at a distance (26) in the direction of the glass window pane (11). The distance is determined before assembly by means of a spacer (23). After the spacer has been removed, the magnetic-tape layers (15, 16) endeavour, by virtue of the opposite-pole relationship between their pole strips, to eliminate the distance between the zero lines and to coincide completely; the transparent foil (13) bonded on as double glazing counteracts this and is thereby permanently tensioned. <IMAGE>
