Theophylline and cinnamamide association for asthma - gives prolonged activity, up to 24 hours, and uses some novel cpds. e.g. 3-cinnamoyl 2,2-di:methyl oxazolidine

Prolonged action medicament contains an association of theophylline (1,3-dimethyl-xanthine) or its derivs. and a cinnamamide of formula (I) or 4-R-Ph-CH=CH-CO-NR1R2 (I) (where R is H, halo or acetyl; R1 is H or methyl; R2 is CHR3-CH2OH; R3 is H or methyl or R1 and R2 together with the N atom are 2,2-dimethyl-3-oxazolidinyl). Cinnamamides of formula (I) are new where a) R is H or halo and -NR1R2 is 2,2-dimethyl-3-oxazolidinyl and b) R is acetyl, R1 is H and R2 is hydroxyethyl. Theophylline is a known bronchodilator used in the treatment of asthma, but is not well tolerated and not very effective. To give best results it would have to be administered every 6 hrs. The association of theophylline with (I) gives prolonged activity (up to 24 hrs.) and may be administered orally, parenterally or rectally. Activity tests are described.
