PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit for an endoscopes which enables the optimization of the response speed in the quantity of light adjusting function regardless of the types of the electronic endoscopes used. SOLUTION: The light source unit for the endoscopes comprises a stop unit 34 which is detachably inserted into the flux of an illumination light irradiated from a lamp 11 to control the quantity of the illumination light supplied to the endoscope used for observation of a subject, a stop unit moving motor 35 for moving the stop unit 34 along the optical axis of the illumination light and a drive circuit 36 which drives and controls the stop unit moving motor 35 according to the identifying information from an electronic endoscope used to move the stop unit 34.
