PURPOSE:To obtain very objective data, by collecting a component of an expired breath, concentrating it, reacting it with a fluorescent agent, projecting light contg. specified wavelengths on the reaction product obtd., and measuring a fluorescent light excited by a proper means. CONSTITUTION:An expired breath is cooled in a cell to <=-20 deg.C, and collected in a proper concn. rate by a method, such as condensing its component on the surfaces of carriers of glass particles or the like packed in the cell, introducing it into carriers of silica or the like and absorbing it once into the silica and again eluting it, or introducing it into an aq. alkaline soln. and collecting it. A mixture of acetone-water and a soln. of NAM are added to the sample thus obtd., sufficiently stirred to complete reaction, a light contg. 360-370nm wavelengths is projected on the reaction product, then, fluorescent light is excited when methylmercaptan or the like thiol compd. is present in the reaction product, and oral odor can be measured by detecting its fluorescent light. |
