PURPOSE:To reduce the power consumption of an illuminating power supply which occupies the greater part of the entire power consumption, by implanting a cation to the surface of a PLZT plate to form a photoconductive layer. CONSTITUTION:Each ion of hydrogen, helium, argon and argon-neon mixture is implanted with acceleration of about 500keV on both sides of a PLZT plate 1 which shows a light diffusion effect with impression an electric field of 100- 200mu thickness. Thus an implanted photoconductive layer 13 is formed, and a transparent electrode 4 of In2O3 is formed at both sides of the layer 13. Most of the voltage is applied to the layer 13 whose dark conductivity is dropped and at a part where the writing light is not irradiated yet with voltage impression of the electrode 4; and the voltage can be ignored for a ferroelectric layer. Under such conditions, the picture information is written with blue light. Therefore the voltage is reduced to a photoconductive layer at an irradiated part, and a large voltage is applied to the ferroelectric layer at the center of the PLZT plate. As a result, a polarization component is produced at a light irradiated part to scatter the transmitted light. A scattering state is preserved even though the impressed voltage is eliminated. Thus a memory effect is obtained. |
