<p>PURPOSE:To improve the character recognition rate, by deforming in a partially linear way an input pattern as if the centroid of the input pattern were shifted to the center of a frame to normalize the pattern after performing the framing and then expanding/contracting the length and breadth of the frame. CONSTITUTION:An input character pattern (1) is converted by a framing normalizing circuit 12 within a character normalizing circuit 11 into an input character framing normalizing pattern (2) which is expanded and contacted linearly so as to secure a fixed size for framing. The pattern (2) is converted into a normalizing pattern (3) which deformed partially and linearly so that the point corresponding to the centroid of the pattern (2) is set at the center of the frame by a linearly deforming circuit 13. For the pattern (3), the suggedness of the boundary produced by the normalization are smoothed and the input character feature (5) is extracted by a feature value extracting circuit 15. Then the distance is calculated between the feature value (6) and each category given from a dictionary part 17, and the category which gives the shortest distance is delivered in the form of a recognition result (7).</p> |
