PURPOSE:To manufacture a watch glass made of quartz glass at a low temp. with simple equipment and apparatus while saving energy, by hydrolyzing alkyl silicate as a starting material, forming a molded body of dry gel, and calcining the molded body. CONSTITUTION:Suitable alkyl silicate is dissolved in a solvent such as ethanol. Distilled water and mineral acid are added to the soln. and mixed by agitation to cause hydrolysis. The hydrolyzate is charged into a suitable container and dried to form a watch glass-shaped molded body of dry gel. A watch glass made of quartz glass is manufactured by calcining the dry gel. |
