PURPOSE:To manufacture a permanent magnet alloy with superior magnetic characteristics, by providing a columnar structure to an Fe-Cr-Co alloy having a specified composition contg. secondary components such as a rare earth element and by subjecting the alloy to soln. heat treatment, plastic working, treatment in a magnetic field and aging. CONSTITUTION:An alloy consisting of, by weight, 20-35% Cr, 5-20% Co, <=8% in total of a rare earth element such as Ce or Sm, Ti, V, Mo, W, Mn, Ni, Cu, Al and Si as secondary components and the balance essentially Fe is melted and solidified in one direction by a heated mold zone melting method or other method to provide a columnar structure. The structure is converted into a single-phase structure by soln. heat treatment. The alloy is plastically worked by rolling or other method to increase the crystal anisotropy and to deform the alloy to a desired shape. The alloy is then treated at a fixed temp. in a magnetic field to provide magnetic characteristics, and by aging the alloy, an Fe-Cr-Co type permanent magnet is obtd. |
