A manually-operated flat-bed knitting machine has an automatic yarn-changing device with a pattern drum comprising either a series of interchangeable cams mounted on a common shaft or a pattern-chain which engages flanges mounted on the shaft. On the end of the shaft is affixed a ratchet wheel which is indexed one tooth at each traverse of the carriage. A dog attached to the carriage deflects a rocking lever carrying a pawl which engages the ratchet wheel. The cams or pattern-chain links operate one of a series of actuating rods which causes the appropriate yarn to be presented to the knitting needles. The device gives fully-automatic yarn-selection from a range of yarns, and eliminates errors inherent in manual selection.
|
