<p>Gases to be humidified are fed along a heat transfer surface (a1) in a small chamber (a), so the gas is heated before it flows over a layer (b) of absorbent material contg. water and located in chamber (a), so the gas or gases collect water from layer (b), and then flow to an exit. A ring chamber (a) is pref. used in which one wall is formed by the horizontal surface of water, so turbulent flow of the gases collects some water while the gases are being heated. One pref. humidifier uses a ring chamber (a) with a vol. of 130 ccm. above the max. height of the surface of the water. A slotted tube pref. forms surface (a1), the bore of the tube being covered with a layer (b) of absorbent paper. Useful for the humidification of a mixt. of air and oxygen being fed to a sick human, esp. a baby.</p> |
