PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound in high selectivity, by the vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of 2-methyldiphenylmethane using a catalyst obtained by supporting a substance having catalytic activity and containing the oxides of V, Ti, P and Cs at specific ratios on an inert carrier. CONSTITUTION:The objective anthraquinone is prepared by the vapor-phase catalytic oxidation of 2-methyldiphenylmethane with air or a gas containing molecular oxygen in the presence of a catalyst obtained by supporting a substance having catalytic activity and containing vanadium oxide and titanium oxide at a weight ratio of 1:99-90:10 (in terms of V2O5:TiO2), and 0.05-10pts.wt. of phosphorus oxide (in terms of P2O5) and 0.05-10pts.wt. of cesium oxide (in terms of Cs2O) per 100pts.wt. of the sum of vanadium oxide and titanium oxide. The oxidation is carried out at 300-480 deg.C and a space velocity of 500-10,000 Hr<-1>. |
