PURPOSE:To perform effective and stable welding, by monitoring a welding arc part with a television camera, processing the video signal thereof to detect the arc length and limiting the same in the oscillation range of the core wire of a welding torch. CONSTITUTION:A television camera 7 is mounted to a welding torch 3 and a welding arc part 6 is monitored so that the horizontal scanning line is in parallel with a groove 2. A generator 14 for time series signal provides a threshold value to the video signal of the horizontal scanning line of the camera 7, detects the rise thereof and determines the time from the horizontal synchronizing signal of each horizontal scanning line to the rise time in order of the horizontal scanning lines. A detection circuit 37 for peak point detects the peak value of said time series signal over the oscillation range of the core wire 5 of the torch 3 and determines the horizontal scanning line corresponding to the peak value. A detection circuit 40 for arc length determines the arc length by threshold value processing of the video signal for said horizontal scanning line. |
