A disc player comprises a mechanism for driving and centring recording discs of different dimensions on a disc drive with a spindle. A plate (12) for receiving a loaded recording disc, which can be moved along a horizontal path into a position centred with respect to the spindle, has spaced-apart levers (22, 24) which are pivotally movable laterally outwards from a first position, spanning the centre line of the path, and are pressed resiliently towards each other. A pair of substantially L-shaped stop elements (46, 48) are held on the plate, spanning the centre line, in the path of a loaded recording disc of small dimensions in order to localise such a recording disc in the centred position. Two elements (52, 54) which are actuated by the outward movement of the two levers (22, 24) in the presence of a recording disc of large dimensions can push the stop elements out of the path, so that a recording disc of large dimensions can be moved into the centred position. A fail-safe and recording-disc sensing circuit is provided. <IMAGE>
