A description is given of a method for casting molten metals, in particular magnesium, with a low-pressure casting device (1). The low-pressure casting device (1) has a casting mould (2), a heatable crucible (3) for holding a metal melt (4) to be cast, a metering vessel (7) arranged in the crucible (3), a riser (11), starting from the metering vessel (7), preferably extending vertically upwards, and having a mouthpiece for connection to a gate (12) of the casting mould (2); a heating jacket (13) surrounding the riser (11) and a pressure line (14) connected to the metering vessel (7). To pump the molten metal into the casting mould (2), a pressurised gas is introduced into the metering vessel (7) via the pressure line (14). According to the invention, relatively great compaction of the metal and largely void-free castings of high mechanical strength are obtained by the fact that the molten metal is pumped at a delivery pressure of 0.5 to 6.0 bar, preferably 0.6 to 2.0 bar, in particular 0.6 to 1.2 bar. <IMAGE>
