The sleeve is suitable for a new disc which can be played with laser beams. Despite the smaller diameter of this disc in comparison with the mechanically playable discs, the new sleeve approximately corresponds in its external dimensions to the known sleeves, so that the known storage and transport containers are also suitable for the compact disc. In the new sleeve, one of the side walls is designed as a support plate, which is provided with a relief-like surface layer which supports the peripheral edge of the disc resting on it centrally.
