Devices of this type can be designed as a control or restriction valve or even as a silencer. In general they have a hollow-cylindrical restriction body with guide plates mounted on it for deflecting the medium from an axial direction to a radial direction. In order to reduce the design cost and to provide a more robust and also universally usable embodiment for a device of this type, the invention proposes that the guide plates have annular grooves which are concentric to one another, are open towards one plate side and are defined by circular, likewise concentric, partition walls, that the partition walls be provided with through-holes distributed over the periphery, which through-holes connect adjacent annular grooves, and that the open annular grooves be covered by an adjacent guide plate. On account of this design, the energy contained in the flowing medium can be reduced especially effectively. Furthermore, the design permits any assembly of valves and silencers according to the modular construction principle.
