A folding box consists of a lid part and a bottom part, which both consist of a base area with side wall parts which are each connected to the base area via a folding line and are connected to one another in the vicinity of each corner point of the base area in such a way that the side wall parts can be opened out from a folded-up position, the side wall parts and the base area all extending essentially parallel to one another and lying on top of one another, to form an upright edge surrounding the base area. The folding box is distinguished by the fact that, by incisions and folding lines provided therein, the base area of the lid part is fitted with at least two flaps which, depending on the joining of the bottom and lid parts, can be folded back into the folding box in the direction of an adjacent side wall part, at least part of the free pivot edge of a flap extending in the folded-back position essentially parallel to and in the vicinity of the folding line of the bottom part between the base area and the adjacent side wall part, and locking means being provided for the flaps in this position.
