PURPOSE:To efficiently and effectively cool a power converter without requiring an ion exchanger by composing a circulating passage between the units to be cooled of electric device such as thyristors formed in a hollow shape, and flowing liquid fluorocarbon which does not contain chlorine and cooling therein. CONSTITUTION:Modules 1 are stacked through a post 11, and coupled via insulating pipes 6. Coolant is supplied from a tank 12 through a secondary cooler 13, a pump 15, a forth main pipe 16, and a pipe 6 into each module 1. Liquid fluorocarbon which does not contain chlorine in a chemical structure formula is employed as a cooling medium. Since specific dielectric constant of liquid fluorocarbon is smaller than water and volumetric resistivity is high, impurity hardly become ions, with the result that an ion exchange is not necessarily provided as the conventional one. Since the volumetric resistivity is remarkably high, leakage current which passes through the liquid fluorocarbon becomes small, a communicating pipe is thick and short, a flowing resistance can be decreased, and a pump 15 is further reduced in size. |
