Products and materials used in the biomedical field are depyrogenated by prolonged contact with a solution or suspension of about 0.1% to about 10% by weight of a nonionic amphiphile selected from the group consisting of substances having the general formula RC6H4(OC2H4)nOH wherein R is octyl or nonyl and n is at least 3, followed by liquid phase separation of said amphiphile from the resulting depyrogenated product or material.
