Phenyl-propenyl-imidazole derivs. - useful as antimicrobial agents and fungicides

Phenylpropenylimidazoles of formula (I) and their acid-addn. salts are new: (where n is 0-2; R1 is halogen, CF3 or 1-6C alkyl or alkoxy; R3 is 1-6C alkyl, 2-4C alkenyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl; R3 is H, 1-6C alkyl or 2-4C alkenyl; R4 is H, 1-6C alkyl or NO2). (I) are antimicrobial agents active against fungi (esp. Candida and Trichophyton app.) and Gram-positive bacteria. They may also be used as fungicides for protection of plants and foodstuffs. The cpd. 1-(2-(4-chlorobenzyl) -3,3-dimethyl-1-butenyl) -1H-imidazole is specifically claimed.
