The invention relates to a device on winding machines for severing the web and for attaching the web start to the circumference of a winding tube. It consists of a combined cutting and attaching device which is mounted displaceably in the axial direction of the winding tube on a beam. Arranged behind the severing knife is a press-down device connected to the latter for common movement and intended for the adhesive tape which is drawn off from a co-moved roll and which is assigned an adhesive-tape cutting knife.
