Prepn. of phosphomycin salts

The process comprises reaction of mono(+)-alpha -phenethylammonia)-(-) cis-1,2-epoxypropyl)-phosphonate in monohydrate state with a basic organic compound (I) in alcoholic medium, at 20-65 degrees C for 3 hours. To increase efficiency, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a sulphonic acid R3SO3H in which R3 is an alkyl aryl or alkaryl group. This gives compound of formula (II) where one of R1 and R2 is a proton (H+) and the other or both is tris(hydroxymethyl) -ammonia-methane cation.
