PURPOSE:To make amperometric measurement of the concn. of the carbon dioxide contained in a high-temp. soln. or air by disposing thermophilic autotrophic bacteria which metabolize the carbon dioxide near a gas permeable membrane of an oxygen electrode. CONSTITUTION:Part of a vessel 1 contg. an electrolyte 4 in which an anode 3 and cathode 2 of the oxygen electrode 6 are immersed is constituted of the 1st gas permeable membrane 5. The thermophilic autotrophic bacteria 9 which metabolize the carbon dioxide are disposed near the gas permeable membrane 5. The outside thereof is covered with the 2nd gas permeable membrane 8. The gas permeable membranes 5, 8 are made of silicone rubber or fluorine- contg. high-polymer compd. membranes. The bacteria 9 are the aerobic bacilli screened in a selective medium kept at about 65 deg.C. The growing temp. region thereof is 30-75 deg.C, the optimum pH is about 6.5, the length is 2-3mum, and the diameter is about 0.4mum, sulfolobus acidocaldarius carderia. acidophila, etc., are used. The sensor can operate up to the temp. at which the used bacteria can live. |
