PURPOSE:To discriminate an object stably by increasing the locally low density of the object up to its circumferential density and then performing edge detection processing. CONSTITUTION:A figure emphasizing circuit 1 adjusts the density value of a scale part to an input picture as much as possible to obtain a stable scale pattern when half-threshold value processing is performed later. Then, an edge detecting circuit 2 obtains a picture by extracting edges of lateral segments to increase the difference between finely difference scale segment widths. A figure frame output circuit 4, on the other hand, detects the position coordinates of the scale pattern to input specified information on the frame to an in-frame information adding circuit 3 together with the scale pattern, and information obtained by integrating all density values greater than some threshold value based upon a scale picture pattern in the frame is used to discriminate the segment width by a discriminating circuit 5. |
