PURPOSE:To obtain finely divided silicon carbide having high uniformity of particle diameter, by bringing carbon or a carbon precursor substance into contact with a silicic acid solution or modified silicic acid solution, heat-treating its precipitate mixture so that it is reacted. CONSTITUTION:Powder of carbon or a carbon precursor substance such as saccharose, etc., or a solution of the carbon precursor substance is brought into contact with a silicic acid solution or modified silicic acid solution, and the precipitate is subjected to solid-liquid separation. The precipitate mixture is heated in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at a proper temperature, to give silicon carbide powder. By this method, finely divided silicon carbide useful for preparing a sintered material having high strength can be obtained easily by an energy saving means. |
