PURPOSE:To realize magnetic recording/reproducing with a metal vapor-deposited tape having high conductivity, by constituting a head by holding a magneto- resistance effect element between members having higher Vickers hardness than said effect element. CONSTITUTION:A bias layer 33 of a titanium film, etc. and a magneto-resistance effect (MR) layer 34 of ''Permalloy'', etc. are formed in a ferrite substrate 31 via an insulated layer 32 of SiO2, etc. In addition, an insulated layer 35, a ''Permalloy'' layer 36, an adhesion layer 37 and a ferrite layer 38 are provided. Then the rubbing sirface 39 of a head is polished with a polishing tape, and some difference of polishing degrees is produced among members due to the degree of Vickers hardness. Thus depressed and projected parts are produced as shown in a figure (b). About 0.03mum difference of level is produced between the MR layer 34 and its peripheral SiO2 layers 32 and 35. As a result, the layer 34 has no contact even with a conductive metal vapor-deposited type having 0.02mum surface thickness. This ensures a normal reproducing action. Thus a combination is possible between a metal vapor-deposited head which is capable of recording of high density and an MR head which is capable of reproduction of a low speed. |
