The lock for a vehicle body panel comprises a latch (88) having an enlarged lower end (54) which locates beneath first (50) and second (74) support surfaces on a locking lever (24). The panel is opened by a remote release acting on one end (34) of the lever, which causes the lever to pivot against the action of a first spring (58), releasing the latch (88) from the first support surface (50). The other end (80) of the lever is then manually actuated from the vehicle exterior, against the action of another spring (78), which causes the second support surface (74) to release the latch, allowing the panel to be fully opened.
