PURPOSE:To enhance the utilization rates of a positive active material, a negative active material and an electrolyte matter by facilitating the diffusion of electrolyte in the electrode group by providing not less than one circular penetrating holes inside a lead storage battery. CONSTITUTION:A positive and a negative plate 1 and 2 are made by packing an active material 3 into grids made of a lead alloy. Each of these grids is provided with three penetrating holes 5 which are at the same level lower than the center of the grid so that the penetrating holes 5 of positive and negative plates 1 and 2 correspond to each other. The symbol 6 represents a separator which has penetrating parts 7, which are at the same level as the penetrating holes 5 of the positive and the negative plates 2 and have an opening area sufficiently smaller than that of the hole 5. Since electrolyte moves due to the penetrating holes, the active-material utilization rate of the lower part of each electrode plate, in which a specially small amount of the electrolyte is diffused and which has a low active-material utilization rate, can be enhanced. |
