<p>An improved valve having a body (12) with an inlet (14), an outlet (16), a valve chamber (18), a valve seat (20), a valve member (28) movable in the valve chamber (18) toward and away from said valve seat (20), a stem (30) connected to said valve member (28), a bonnet (22) connected to and forming a part of the body (12) with the stem (30) extending therethrough and an improved sealing assembly (34) for sealing around the stem (30) including a seal ring (52) of extrudable material and means (50) providing a space into which said seal ring (52) extrudes to form a sealing lip (86) extending toward the pressure and responsive to pressure exerted on the sealing assembly (34). Also the improved sealing assembly (34) includes mating tapered wedging (56) and seal rings (58) having a small angle mating taper to wedge the rings (56, 58) into sealing engagement with the walls (30, 32) against which they are to seal.</p> |
