Antimicrobially treated textile article

A particular fabric, especially double fabric, having a rearside layer or inner side and a front-side layer or outer side. At least one of the layers or sides is at least partially prepared from threads formed from synthetic fibres containing an antimicrobial agent. In some embodiments a connection thread connects the two sides in a plated relationship. Even with minimum contact of the threads in the two layers of fabric the antimicrobial agent migrates from the interior of the treated fibres in one layer to the surface thereof and passes over into the threads in the other layer of fabric. This imparts antimicrobial protection to both layers of fabric, whereas the advantages of natural untreated fibres are retained in one of the layers of fabric.
