PURPOSE:To obtain a high-quality picture, by using a developer where a magnetic carrier and (non)magnetic toner, which have average particle sizes within specific ranges and have particle sizes smaller than convntional those materials, are combined and giving oscillation to tufts of the developer to specify the gap between a developer carrier and an image carrier. CONSTITUTION:A developer D is used where a carrier of magnetic particles, which have an average particle size of 5-30mu and consist of a magnetic metal, a magnetic alloy, a magnetic metal oxide, or the like, or magnetic particles, which are obtained by coating these magnetic particles with an insulating resin or the like and have a specific resistance of >=10<8>OMEGAcm, and a toner T which incorporates fine magnetic particles or is a nonmagnetic toner and has an average particle size of 1-10mu are combined. A magnet 3 in a developer carrier (sleeve) 2 is rotated or a bias voltage is applied to the sleeve 2 from a power source 10 to give oscillation to toner tufts, and the gap between surfaces of the image carrier and the sleeve 2 is set to 10-500mu. Thus, high-quality pictures without edge effect and photographic fog are always obtained even if many images are transferred continuously to ordinary sheets of paper. |
