PURPOSE:To obtain a battery which has an excellent low-temperature characteristic by providing concave and convex parts on the out side surface of a positive mixture, which touches the bottom inside surface and the inner side surface of a positive can, and pouring electrolyte in a space formed between the positive mixture and the positive can. CONSTITUTION:A positive mixture 8 the out side surface of which is provided with concave and convex parts by pressure molding, is inserted into a positive can 2 in such a manner that the mixture 8 touches the bottom inside surface and the inner side surface of the can 2. Next, electrolyte 9 containing no zinc oxide is poured in the can 2. After that, a separator 7 is placed on the positive mixture 8, and these members are pressed with a pressing pin having a flat end surface. Then, the battery is sealed with a negative can 5 around which a gasket 6 is attached and which is packed with a negative mixture 4 and an electrolyte 3. Such a battery thus constituted, since it contains a sufficient quantity of electrolyte in its positive electrode and the entire positive mixture is impregnated with the electrolyte, has an increased reaction surface area of the positive electrode, and indicates an excellent low-temperature heavy load characteristic even during the initial stage of ageing. |
