A shaft borer is proposed, consisting of a housing with outer engaging element for a tool, in the cylindrical cavity of which clamping bolts are arranged in a cage, which clamping bolts engage into radial, pocket-like enlargements of the housing cavity, the cage being designed at both ends as a closed ring, the cross-section of the enlargements being able to be involute-shaped and the clamping bolts and enlargements possessing, for use with shafts or bolts having a thread, threaded parts corresponding to the latter. <IMAGE>
