<p>A cargo restraining device (5) for a palletized load including a platform (18, 19) for receiving a pallet (12) with a load (10) of cargo thereon, and a vertical frame (28) at one end of the platform. When the pallet is placed on the platform, it is locked in place by a serrated member (20) which engages a cross-tie (51a) of the pallet. The pallet can then only be released by disengaging the teeth (24) of the serrated member (20) which is accomplished by moving a lever (54) resiliently coupled to the serrated member (20). A handle (34) is pivotally secured to the frame (28) and connected to a horizontally extending member (48) which is movable to place it in frictional contact with a floor or supporting surface. Movement of the handle (34) also locks the vertically-extending member (44) in the extended position so that pallet is restrained from movement. The device is particularly adapted for use with the metal, channeled floor of a refrigerated carrier vehicle.</p> |
