The invention relates to an image-inverting system, in particular for stereomicroscopes, consisting of two identical subsystems (Fig. 1), of which each consists of four reflecting surfaces which can all be designed in principle as front-surface mirrors, two surfaces (1 and 2) enclosing a 90 DEG angle relative to one another and being inclined jointly in such a way that an image inversion occurs in the case of simultaneously lateral beam deviation, and that the two other surfaces (3 and 4) enclose an angle and as roof mirrors execute for the purpose of interpupillary distance adjustment a joint rotation about the axis (8) of the beam impinging on the surface (3) accompanied by corresponding circular radial pupillary movement without image rotation. <IMAGE>
