In an electrostatic spray device with a high-voltage generator (100, 101, 102) connected to an electrostatic spray head, a control transistor (T1) and a switching transistor (T2) are provided for controlling the high-output voltage (U) as a function of the output current (I) in the high-voltage generator (100, 101, 102), said transistors being driven in each case by means of a square-wave pulse sequence the square-wave pulse sequences being preset with respect to pulse width and the pulse repetition rate by means of adjustment circuits (P1, P2) and the pulse width being raised in a predetermined current region with rising current in order to keep constant the high output voltage (U) and being reduced above a predetermined voltage value in order to reduce the high output voltage (U) from the predetermined current value. <IMAGE>
