Lamp cover

A crucial characteristic of lamp covers is the degree of transmission of the material used for the cover for the light of the lamp to be covered. For lamp covers made of plastic, only thermoplastics were therefore hitherto suitable, since the known thermosets had only a very low degree of transmission. Since thermosets containing included glass fibres have now been disclosed with refractive indices matched to one another so that the end product is virtually glass-clear, it is proposed to use a material of this type as starting material for the production of lamp covers. The novel lamp covers have a high degree of transmission and greater heat and impact resistance and better chemicals resistance than the known lamp covers made from thermoplastics. The lamp cover according to the invention can be shaped in a vacuum thermoforming press and subsequently cured by UV radiation. <IMAGE>
