In a device (1) for manipulating transport and storage units, in particular in high-rack block-storage systems, as a rail-borne vehicle with a chassis (11), carrying the running wheels (11, 12), a drive, a drive control means and a supply unit, as well as a liftable and lowerable elevating platform in a flat type of construction enabling it to travel beneath occupied storage places, a solution is to be provided which on the one hand reduces the amount of equipment and thus the complexity of the control means and on the other hand enables the device to travel smoothly over rail joints. This is achieved by the elevating platform (16) being equipped with guide elements (15) which effect the lifting and lowering and are guided via lifting and lowering guide surfaces (17, 18), the chassis (2, 3) being movable in synchronism in the opposite direction relative to the elevating platform (16) during the lifting and lowering. <IMAGE>
