A method of performing signal acquisition in a communication system, comprising performing a first correlation based on received samples to detect for a first TDM pilot comprised of at least one instance of a first pilot sequence; and if the first TDM pilot is detected, performing a second correlation based on the received samples to detect for a second TDM pilot comprised of at least one instance of a second pilot sequence as well as a corresponding apparatus.
