Apparatus for cleaving an optical fiber, comprising: means (37, 41) (52) for engaging a length of the fiber at two spaced points and placing said fiber in tension (50); scoring means (31) arranged for contacting the circumferential periphery of the fiber length in tension; and means (23, 24) enabling relative rotation between the fiber and said sharp-pointed means for effecting a score line completely around the fiber.
