PURPOSE:To discriminate the print pitch in a short time, by extracting the projection in the direction orthogonal to the direction of a character row for the picture data of each character row and obtaining the width of each projection and the distance between centers of projections which are adjacent to each other. CONSTITUTION:The analog picture signal supplied from a reading part 1 is converted into a digital picture data at a binary coding part 2 and then fed to an isolated point eliminating part 3 for deletion of noise. The digital picture data underwent the deletion of isolated points is fed to a row extracting part 4. Then the picture data of a character row is extracted and stored to a picture storing part 5. A projection extracting part 6 extracts the vertical projection of the picture data of a character row. A projection parameter calculating part 7 calculates the width of each projection and the distance between centers of projections adjacent to each other in the form of the value obtained by converting the number of picture elements and then feeds it to a selecting part 8. The value selected at the part 8 is sorted at a sorting part 9 and fed to a deciding part 10. |
