<p>PURPOSE:To extract stable feature out of a character pattern, by a square frame which is circumscribed to the character pattern and obtaining the number of black picture elements within a certain band region of the inner width of each side. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern memory 10 stores the character pattern data which is binary coded to white and black by an amount equivalent to a character. Detectors 12-18 read the character pattern data out of the memory 10 and then detects a square frame which is circumscribed to the character pattern. Black picture element counters 24-30 obtain the number of black picture elements corresponding to each side of the square frame. The number of black picture elements is coded by coders 32-38 and then set to a code register 40. The code obtained at the register 40 is equal to a feature code of the character pattern and is also used as a class code showing one of character sorting classes.</p> |
