PURPOSE:To increase the hardness and the adhesion strength of a coating layer, by a method wherein an electrode made of Ti or a Ti-containing alloy and an object to be processed are accommodated in a gas-tight tank and discharge coating is carried out in the gas carbonizing or nitriding Ti. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 6 comprising Ti or a Ti-containing alloy is brought into contact with and separated from an object to be processed by an electromagnetic vibrating apparatus 8 while electric discharge is generated by applying discharge voltage with the contact and the separation thereof to carry out discharge coating processing. At this time, a coating metal is reacted with a gas such as N2 gas or C3H8 gas at the same time with coating to form nitride or carbide on a coating layer 7. In this state, by glow discharge generated between a discharge electrode 27 and the object 2 to be processed, nitride or carbide generated on the coating layer 7 are difused further. By the formation of this nitride or carbide, the hardness of the coating layer 7 is enhanced and the strength thereof is also increased. |
