A device for treating back problems comprises an underlay 10 for a patient, members 11,12 for securing the pelvic part and the chest part of the patient and also a member 13 which can move relative to the underlay 10 and which supports the pelvic part of the patient. The member 11 which is intended for the pelvic part possesses a first pair of wheels 112,112' which are attached to a belt. The movable member 13 possesses a second pair of wheels 132,132' which are attached to the member. Each of two lines 111,111' connects one of the said first wheels 112 to one of the said second wheels 132 and has one end attached to a pulling member 20 and the remaining end fixedly attached relative to one or other of the underlay 10, the member 11 intended for the pelvic part or the line in question. The first pair of wheels 112,112' is attached to the belt by way of a rigid plate 113,113' which extends over the whole width of the belt and some distance outside the belt. According to one embodiment, each of the lines 111,111' has one of its ends conveyed around a wheel 200 in the pulley member 20 and the remaining end attached to an upright 101,101' in the underlay 10. In a modification, each line 111,111' is also conveyed around a wheel 102,102' in the upright and has the remaining end attached to the plate 113,113'.
