Eggs that are to be cracked are first fed in transverse rows on an inlet conveyor 13, from whence they are delivered to a transfer conveyor 12, which runs perpendicular to the inlet conveyor, so that the successive transverse rows of eggs on the inlet conveyor are translated into longitudinal rows on the transfer conveyor. From there the eggs are transferred to cracking units 11 installed at an interval in the longitudinal direction on an endless cracking conveyor 10, whilst the cracking units move side by side with the transfer conveyor. The eggs are cracked in the cracking units, and the egg white and the egg yolks are caught and separated in collecting bowl units 50 installed below the cracking units on the cracking conveyor. Installed in proximity to each cracking unit on the cracking conveyor is an air nozzle unit 52, which is fed with compressed air from an air supply mechanism 110 on one of the rotatable wheels 8, over which the cracking conveyor runs. Each air nozzle unit sends air jets into the cracked egg shells so as to recover the residual fluid from the shells. <IMAGE>
