PURPOSE:To prepare selectively ethanol, by reacting methanol with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst containing cobalt, rhenium and an alkylphosphine as active components in an inert solvent. CONSTITUTION:Methanol is reacted with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in an inert solvent, preferably a hydrocarbon, ether or ester, in the presence of a catalyst consisting of (i) cobalt, (ii) rhenium and (iii) an alkylphosphine as active components to give ethanol with suppressed side reactions in high selectivity. The amounts of the respective components in the above-mentioned catalyst based on one mole methanol are preferably as follows: (i) 5-100mg atom expressed in terms of Co atoms, (ii) 1-30mg atom expressed in terms of Re atoms and (iii) 10-200mg expressed in terms of P atoms. The atomic ratio of the Co:Re:P is preferably 1:(0.05-0.5):(0.5-2).
|
