Two-layer wire strand in parallel lay, esp. for use as embedded reinforcement in rubber types, plastics products, conveyor belts, etc. comprises several wires of uniform dia. forming the inner layer and also an outer layer. In the outer layer each wire is associated with three of the inner layers, while in the inner layer each wire touches four in the outer layer. Of the three wires (9a,9b,9c) in the outer layer which are associated with one wire (9) in the inner layer, one wire (9a) is of smaller dia. than the outer two (9b,9c). This smaller wire is in contact with two wires (9,12) of the inner layer. This arrangement provides improved bond when embedded in rubber or plastics.
