A continuous treatment apparatus is described having a vessel, which has a base part and preferably a cylindrical upwards-extending side wall, to define therein a liquid chamber which is filled at least in part with a flocculant carrier and which forms a moving media bed, the flow generally proceeding downwards through the bed. A clean water outlet pipe permits the discharge of purified liquid from the vessel. An inlet pipe permits the addition of liquid to be clarified into the vessel. A vertically extending inner partition wall runs entirely concentrically with the vessel side wall and defines a moving bed area and an annular area.
