In the aligning device for accurately setting receptacle boxes into walls or the like, this device exhibits holding members engaging the inside of the receptacle box and a bubble level, which can be seen on the outside, for horizontally aligning the inside of the receptacle box which has diametrically opposite projections. To form an economic aligning device which is simple to manufacture, it has a lid part which approximately corresponds to the base area of a receptacle box and accommodates the bubble level. On the edge of this lid part, four projecting holding fingers are arranged at right angles to its plane, two holding fingers of which are opposite one another in extension of the longitudinal axis of the bubble level. The other two holding fingers are arranged perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the bubble level on the lid part. At their free ends, the holding fingers have centring grooves for engaging the top of the projections of the receptacle box.
