Incremental, linear displacement measuring device, in particular for positioning or step switching mechanisms equipped with a linear motor. The displacement measuring device has a fixed single-layer transmitting coil whose axis extends in the displacement direction, and a receiving coil arrangement which is coupled inductively thereto and can be adjusted in the direction of the transmitting coil axis. The receiving coil arrangement includes two single-layer receiving coils whose axial direction corresponds to that of the transmitting coil. The receiving coils have the same pitch as the transmitting coil, and they are mutually interleaved in the fashion of a multiple thread. The transmitting coil and the two receiving coils are constructed in each case in such a way that mutually adjacent turns of each coil conduct currents in the opposite direction in each case. <IMAGE>
